I was blessed with a fabulous group of writers for this book, and "working" on it, because I was reading horse stories didn't feel so much like work. :)

There's a good mix of voices and themes, and I hope you'll have the chance to check them out. In addition to the e-book anthology and print version, each story is also available individually.

Horsing Around authors will be stopping by today the Torquere Social LJ, so please do pop in and out to see what else they may share!

Feathers and a freebie!

Feathers from JMS

Happy New Year to one and all!

Feathers to release 12/30/12!

Feathers from JMS
JMS Books will re-release my story, Feathers, on December 30th. It's a classic kind of romance, set in Tampa, and kinda horse-y and bird-y.

And JMS is giving away free books every day this month!

You have to register to get the freebie but no CC info will be taken if all you're getting are the freebies. Plus, everything is on sale this month for the holidays!

Go get 'em!

Checks n' charities!

Getting checks in the mail is always way fun, and I've gotten a couple in the last few weeks. Between Smashwords, Torquere, and JMS, I'll be able to send a nice chunk o' change to my charity of choice this quarter:

This is medium-sized refuge that is being smart and moving out ahead of the suburban sprawl that will eventually surround them. They've acquired some acreage next to the Ocala National Forest and will be protected for decades to come. If you're ever in the Zolfo Springs area they do twice-monthly limited tours.

Also, the North Carolina Pride is later this month, Saturday the 29th in Durham. I'll be there with books and swag.

Royalty checks and charities of choice

Woo hoo! Got a royalty check this week, and now have the semi-fun decision about which charity to donate part of my proceeds to. My choices are:

Last check my donation went to:

And I helped to put together a local arts show that donated part of its profits to my local horse rescue:

I generally alternate donations each quarter, but sometimes there's a special need with the local charity so USERL gets a lot of my attention. But draft horses in general are just so special that it's nice to help them too.

Do you have a charity of choice that's special to you? It's fun to think about how much good we could do if we won the lottery, right?

See you at Contxt next month!

JMS Books releases "Holding the Reins" in print this week with seven stories, all horse-themed, all schmoopy love stories, all erotic. If you like men in love who love horses, then these stories are for you!

It will be debuting next month at the Rainbow Book Fair in New York, and it's available here now:

JMS also has some of my other stories here. The page looks pretty darn impressive, if I do say so myself. JM has done a terrific job with giving me a themed look to the covers, and I appreciate that they have a similar feel. Check it out:

New story release coming from JMS Books!

"Sand and Tears", a new short story, will be releasing this Sunday from JMS Books. It's way out there for me, a scifi/darkfic mash-up with no romance whatsoever.

Here's some info:

In this world, Grezans are prized as exotic captives, on display in households of the wealthy.

And the cruel.

Tulano was saved by his Master, saved from a life of arena fighting, slavery, or worse. He's trained to be a warrior now, acting as bodyguard to his benefactor. But when his Master has to court his constituents, how far will Tulano have to go appease his Master and the wealthy who fund his campaigns?

“Counselor Rilzoren, I’m so glad that you could make the trip,” Jutar spoke as they bowed to one another, as appropriate for the senior group leaders to do. “Let me present an associate of mine, Zeltra Bosc, from our transport division.”

“Very pleased, Counselor. I’m delighted to make your acquaintance,” Zeltra’s pudgy hands fluttered after the honorific handshake. His jewelry flashed in the light.

“And this is my associate, Tulano,” Rilzoren said.

Tulano carefully shook hands with Jutar and noticed how cold his skin was. Jutar’s species were of reptilian heritage. Tulano shook Zeltra’s hand with distaste, glad of his own facial striping that so often distracted others from his true expression.

The human’s voice was high, fawning. “Oooohhh, what a beautiful Grezan! I simply must acquire one for a pet of my own! He’s just lovely ...” Zeltra cooed and stepped forward, seemingly unable to keep his hands off of Tulano.

Tulano stiffened, his striped hands clenching into fists.

“Can I touch his horns?” Zeltra stepped forward.

Tulano growled audibly.

“He’s not a pet, he’s my associate.” Rilzoren interrupted the confrontation. “And he’s not for sale, so please don’t inquire.”

Zeltra glanced at Tulano through lowered eyes, sideways. “Well, he’s just stunning. You know, I have a source on the Outer Rim who can find exotics for a price. I’ll bet he can ...”

Tulano rumbled, his chest swelling. “You buy Grezans for pets?” His accented Standard was thick with hostility.

“Oh, yes! I could find you a female. Of course, females are far more expensive than males, but if you really want one ...” Zeltra lowered his lashes again. “Unless you’d prefer a male?”

Rilzoren smiled. “Tulano really has no time to care for a pet, Zeltra. But thank you for offering.” Rilzoren insinuated himself between the two of them.

Tulano’s body heat rose and his breathing accelerated.

Rilzoren looked at him sharply. Tulano nodded and took one step back from the other men.

Packing for Contxt!

So I spent part of last night's TV time stuffing goodie bags to take with me to Contxt. Thanks go out to M. Durango, Adrienne at the Erotica Readers & Writers Association, Jay Lygon, and Torquere Press folks for providing, um, goodies. And since this weekend is both work and fun, I'm starting to get excited!

If you'll be at Contxt in Silver Spring, please do stop by my table(s) and say hello. I'll be multi-tasking, running my table and Torquere's so I'll have lots of swag to hand out along with candy. (But, only candy that I like personally just in case there are leftovers. There usually aren't.)

The fantabulous Amanda Young helped me out with the whole file-conversion thing-y and cover art stuff to (finally!) get Bruised and Back in the Saddle, the two-fer story set live on Amazon's Kindle ( and on Smashwords ( These are the PG-13ish versions that were initially on the Amazon Shorts program; the R-rated versions are in Rough Cut. (Apparently, Amazon Shorts hated the word *cock*. Who knew?) Despite my ineptitude at uploading and whatnot, they've already sold copies in both places so thank the force readers are patient.

Amanda Young will also be at Contxt along with fellow author J. M. Snyder. We've done several events together over the past few years, and those two are always a blast. And Contxt is a terrific con, filled with yummy panels, an auction, a dance, lots of Really Cool people, and male/male romance and smuttage. What more could one ask from a weekend?

Well, the screening of Gayracula, of course, courtesy of the deeply disturbed (but we love her) Dementor Delta!

See you there!

More free fiction!

Once again, the fabulous folks at the GLBT Bookshelf (Mel Keegan and crew) are sponsoring a free fiction page with stories from a nice variety of authors: Victor Banis, Claire Thompson, Josh Lanyon, PA Brown, PD Singer, and lots of others. All the stories are free and available here:

I've got "Lions and Tigers and Snares" up. It originally sold the the Haworth edition of Men of Mystery, and I think it's in the current Lethe edition as well. Set in a big cat refuge in northwest Florida, it's about, well, here's the blurb:

When undercover game officer Byron Reese tracks down a suspect in endangered species violations, he comes up against someone he didn't expect: a sexy, soft-hearted, big cat handler who has secrets of his own. When a shipment of dangerous cats comes in, the two men face off against an enemy with fists flying and guns blazing. M/M, action adventure. About 7300 words.

And it's also up at Smashwords:

I'm also working on getting the Bruised and Back in the Saddle two-fer moved over to Kindle. Amazon is shutting down the Shorts program, which never really did all that well, and I have to do a file conversion (waves hands in air/flailing motion) to get it set up right. The Kindle price is minimum 99 cents, and with the switch over to 70& author royalties this summer, I'll end up with a *huge* check every quarter. Huge. Heh heh heh.

Check out the free stories and enjoy!
